Foreign Policy: Faithful Friends, Not Suckers

With all of the current turmoil regarding Ukraine, many people have been asking me foreign policy questions lately. I say, keep it simple; the United States should always be a faithful friend (which we are when the Democrats are not in office; just ask the South Vietnamese about that) but we should not let ourselves be played for suckers either. That means, if you are a friend of America and support us then we will support you. That's pretty simple isn't it? Everyone in the world should know that America can be your best friend or your worst enemy. If you are our friend, we will help you, defend you, charge into battle for you but if you are going to criticize and complain and blame all of your problems on the United States while enjoying the security of American protection, funded by the American taxpayers, then it's time to say "adios" and let you fend for yourself. I'll be talking more about this in the days ahead because of something that happened to me recently that was, let's say, an 'eye-opening' experience. However, because it is so topical, right now I will address the subject of Ukraine, Russia and the European Union, many of whom are also members of the NATO alliance.

First of all, I am not saying we should be charging into a war with Russia over Ukraine. They have no formal alliance with us and whatever happens there will not really have a direct impact on American interests or national security. However, they were foolish enough to believe they could trust a Democrat like President Clinton who talked them into giving up their offensive weapons, so we do have some obligation since some people out there were stupid enough to vote for the Arkansas rapist. However, Obama the bungler has tried to take some action, it turns out that our NATO allies like the United Kingdom and particularly Germany are unwilling to go along with any biting sanctions against Russia. Isn't that nice? You know, especially considering that NATO was set up to protect people, like the Germans especially, from the threat of a Russian invasion from the east. Now Russia is invading countries in eastern Europe and Germany doesn't want to get involved. Seems to me that if Germany is so unafraid of Russia, then there really is no reason why American taxpayers should continue to pay for the troops in Germany, standing guard in Europe. Why should we cover them with our nuclear umbrella if they would rather cooperate with Russia (the guys we are supposedly protecting them from) instead of the United States?

Again, I'm not saying we should do anything hasty about Ukraine. We still don't really know who were are dealing with and we have to be careful about rushing to give money (that we don't have) to rebel groups that may contain sinister elements who will use this chaos to their advantage. We need more information and more than just the word of a RINO like John McCain who seems to be in favor of military intervention in just about every country in the world. However, given the attitude of the Germans, I would be much more willing to assist the Ukrainian nationalists fighting for their independence from Russian domination than the Germans who seem to have totally sold out to Moscow. Maybe we could make a deal: Russia can't have east Ukraine but they can have east Germany back; how does that sound? I'm joking of course but I am dead serious when I say that the United States should be more discerning when it comes to who we fight for. How many times have we bailed out the French only to still see them refuse to give us any cooperation but just block and insult us all the time? I say protect our friends but stop defending people who hate America and are just using us. We can't afford it and the American people have had enough of being ripped off by countries that owe us for their freedom and security only to sell us out.

(Just an aside, I have to add of course than Germany didn't use to be like this. Back when Germany held true to its values and traditions, right or wrong, they were the most loyal friends anyone could have. They didn't like the British so much, but they rode hard and came to the rescue at Waterloo. In World War I, even when they were clearly losing, they kept up support for Austria. It takes leftist politicians to turn a country into an unprincipled mess. Somewhat the same could even be said of France. The old Kingdom of France helped America win independence, when we returned the favor in World War I the French Republic didn't appreciate it, just like their liberation in World War II. When you divorce yourself from your traditions, your country goes down hill!)
